Imagine a world where remote-control robots are shooting and killing people. That world is now…

Iranian nuclear scientist was killed using ‘satellite-controlled machine gun’ – The gun was so accurate that the scientist’s wife, who was sitting in the same car, was not injured, reports say.

From the article:

Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Commodore Ali Fadavi, deputy commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as saying: “The machine gun was equipped with artificial intelligence to target Martyr Fakhrizadeh.” He said that the gun fired 13 shots at Mr Fakhrizadeh but was so accurate that the scientist’s wife, who was sitting in the same car, was not injured. “The gun was focused only on Martyr Fakhrizadeh, and his wife was not shot, despite being a few centimetres away,” he said.
“The head of the protection team was also shot four times because he threw himself on Fakhrizadeh, and no enemy was on the scene to shoot the guards.”

Between this technology and high-flying drones killing people, it seems like soon no high-ranking official will be safe. See for example Drone Attacks.

Add robot soldiers and robot armies into the mix and things get frightening fast:

The Terrorist Threat from Drones, Rockets and Missiles

One Doomsday Scenario that should cause great concern is the threat from terrorists using drones and other flying missiles. Terrorists can deploy bombs, chemical weapons or biological agents through these mechanisms. The problem is that the technology becomes more and more accessible with each passing day. The consumer marketplace has driven an amazing amount of innovation and democratization.

For example, this video demonstrates a cruise missile launch system hidden inside a normal steel shipping container:

Several articles covered the video when it was released, such as:

At £10 million, the price is prohibitive, but the ability of hobby-level amateurs to replace these systems today at much lower price points is growing. What if small nations or groups of individuals can accomplish the same thing for $10,000?

Qassam rockets show just how inventive and resourceful guerrilla fighters can be:

If you take a look at the basic design on a cruise missile, you can see that these are not complicated machines:

You need an airframe, an engine and its fuel, and a guidance system. In 2020, it is relatively easy to do these things. There are even sites on the Internet to help you:

A DIY Cruise Missile

For the engine you can consider micro jet engines as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAJM5L9hhBs For guidance there are now dozens of options like this:

UAV v2 Development Platform

There are no technical roadblocks to prevent any decent tinkerer from building a cruise missile.

Tech’s Most Controversial Startup Makes Drone-Killing Robots

According to Palmer Lucky in this video, “The only thing that can take out a big swarm of fast drones is a bigger swarm of faster drones.” But lots of companies are trying alternatives, as shown here.
