The previous post talked about “unlivable” heat in equatorial regions, that is predicted to be decades away. This headline is talking about unbelievable temperatures being recorded in Siberia inside the Arctic circle today:
Alarming heat scorched Siberia on Saturday as the small town of Verkhoyansk (67.5°N latitude) reached 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, 32 degrees above the normal high temperature. If verified, this is likely the hottest temperature ever recorded in Siberia and also the hottest temperature ever recorded north of the Arctic Circle, which begins at 66.5°N.
This is why the Permafrost is melting. This is why all of the ice in the Arctic will soon be gone. It is why the Greenland ice sheet will melt much sooner than expected, raising sea levels. See in particular these chapters:
